João Gabriel Martins Peglow arrived in professional football through the youth academies of one of Brazil's most storied clubs, and his subsequent career path — winding through loan spells on three continents before landing in Major League Soccer — reflects the increasingly globalized nature of the modern game. Born on 7 January 2002 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Peglow entered the youth setup of his hometown club Internacional at just nine years old in 2011, beginning a long and methodical development in one of Brazilian football's most respected academies.

His progress through the Internacional youth system was evidently impressive enough to warrant an early professional commitment. In April 2018, at the age of sixteen, he signed his first professional contract, an unusually early formalization of his status within the club's structure. His development continued apace, and in October 2019, following performances that caught the attention of the senior coaching staff as well as the national youth team setup, Peglow was promoted to the first team for the following season. On 1 January 2020 he extended his contract until December 2023, a further sign of the club's belief in his potential.

His senior debut arrived on 25 July 2020, when he came on as a second-half substitute for Marcos Guilherme in a Campeonato Gaúcho away match against Esportivo. The game ended 1-1, a modest introduction to senior football, but the milestone of making a competitive first-team appearance before his nineteenth birthday placed him firmly among the club's prospects for the future.

Internacional, however, is a club accustomed to competing at the highest levels of Brazilian and continental football, and securing regular playing time in such an environment is no simple matter for a young attacking midfielder. The club opted to develop Peglow through loan arrangements, a common strategy for nurturing talent that needs consistent game time to mature. On 14 July 2021, he joined Porto B, the reserve side of the Portuguese giants FC Porto, on a season-long loan deal that included an option to buy. The Liga Portugal 2 — the Portuguese second division — offered a competitive but accessible environment for him to gain European experience.

Further loan spells followed as Peglow continued to develop away from Internacional's first team. He spent time with Atlético Goianiense in Brazil, Dnipro-1 in Ukraine, and Sport in Brazil's northeast, accumulating experience across different competitive contexts and coaching philosophies. In early 2024, following these various loan arrangements, Peglow terminated his contract with Internacional entirely, freeing him to pursue his next chapter without a parent club's permission required for transfers.

On 19 March 2024, shortly after leaving Internacional, he joined Radomiak Radom of the Polish Ekstraklasa on a deal running until mid-2026. Poland's top league offers consistent competitive football and has increasingly served as a development platform for South American players making their way in European football. Peglow made his debut for Radomiak on 5 April 2024, coming onto the pitch in the 87th minute of a 2-1 home win over Raków Częstochowa. The rapid integration suggested he was settling comfortably into his new environment.

His performances in Poland apparently caught the attention of clubs further afield. On 16 December 2024, Peglow made a significant career move by joining D.C. United in Major League Soccer on a three-year deal that included an option for a fourth year. The transfer represented a meaningful step into one of the world's fastest-growing football competitions, and D.C. United, one of the founding clubs of the league, gave him a platform in the American capital.

Throughout his professional journey, Peglow also accumulated a strong record at international youth level for Brazil, one of football's most competitive national programs. He appeared for the Brazil under-16 team in the 2018 Montaigu Tournament, a prestigious youth competition held in France, contributing three goals in four matches. He then became a consistent starter for the under-17 squad, earning seventeen caps and scoring seven goals while serving in a pivotal role during a successful campaign that ended with Brazil lifting the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup. That tournament victory, achieved on the global stage, marked him as one of the most promising young players of his generation in Brazilian football.
