Júnior Brandão's career reads as a map of Brazilian football's lower divisions and a series of brief stopovers in clubs across multiple continents — a journey driven by determination and an eye for goal that occasionally carried him far beyond where his starting point might have suggested.

José Brandão Gonçalves Júnior was born on January 7, 1995, in Ibiúna, a small municipality in the interior of São Paulo state. He completed his footballing formation with Taboão da Serra before representing CATS in the 2015 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, one of the most watched youth competitions in South American football.

His senior career began in earnest in May 2015 when he joined Juventus de Seara in the Campeonato Catarinense Série B, the fourth tier of the São Paulo football pyramid. He made his debut on June 28, 2015, entering the pitch for the final nineteen minutes of a 1–1 home draw against Atlético Tubarão. Seven days later, he gave an early indication of his goal-scoring instincts by netting twice in a commanding 9–0 routing of Blumenau. On July 29, he produced an even more decisive individual contribution with a hat-trick in a 3–2 win over Operário de Mafra.

In September 2015, Brandão moved to Ypiranga-RS in Série D, where he featured rarely as the club earned promotion to Série C. The 2016 season found him at Boa Esporte and Ferroviária in fleeting appearances before he agreed to a deal with Novo Hamburgo in December 2016. With Novo Hamburgo, he contributed a goal in two Campeonato Gaúcho matches as the club claimed the state title.

A spell at Primavera in August 2017 was cut short when the team was eliminated from the Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão shortly after his arrival. He signed for Iporá in December before a more significant opportunity arrived in April 2018, when he was presented at Atlético Goianiense, competing in Série B. His debut came on April 14 as a substitute in a 3–2 home win against Criciúma, and he announced himself with a brace in a 2–2 draw against Oeste on May 25. He extended his contract until the end of 2020, suggesting that Atlético had genuine plans for him.

However, the most surprising transfer of his career came on August 22, 2018, when he moved to PFC Ludogorets Razgrad, the dominant force in Bulgarian club football. The move to Eastern Europe was unexpected for a player with his profile, though it reflected the growing trend of South American players finding routes into European football through smaller leagues. By January 3, 2019, he was back in Brazil on loan at Série A side Goiás until the end of the year.

August 2019 brought another unusual destination: the Persian Gulf Pro League and champions Persepolis in Iran. The experiment proved brief; his contract was terminated on November 28, 2019, citing poor performance. He returned to Atlético Goianiense on loan in February 2020 before crossing to Europe again in February 2021, this time joining Rio Ave in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on a loan for the remainder of the season. In December 2023, he was recognized as Liga 1 Player of the Month, demonstrating that his career still had meaningful contributions to offer wherever the game took him. He currently plays as a forward for Indonesian Super League club Madura United.
