Odsonne Édouard was born on January 16, 1998, in France, and from his earliest youth performances he carried the unmistakable hallmarks of a player destined to reach the highest levels of the game. Raw pace, technical refinement, and an almost insatiable appetite for goals defined him long before he became a household name in Scotland and, later, England.
His journey began in earnest when he joined the Paris Saint-Germain Academy in 2011, having progressed through the youth ranks of amateur side AF Bobigny. The PSG youth system is one of the most demanding in world football, and Édouard thrived within it. During the 2013–14 season, he was his age group's top scorer at U17 level, striking twenty-five goals in twenty-two appearances in the U17 National Championship. The following season he outdid himself, registering twenty-two goals in just fourteen league appearances and contributing three more in five outings at the Al Kass Cup. In two years, he had scored more than sixty goals across all youth competitions, earning the nicknames "The Rocket" and "Magic Odsonne" from those who watched him closely.
At youth level, Édouard also represented the club's U19 side and was involved in their UEFA Youth League campaign, scoring seven goals in seven U19 Championship matches. In January 2016, he won the Titi d'Or, voted by PSG supporters as the best academy player of the season — a prize previously claimed by names like Kingsley Coman and Jean-Kévin Augustin. PSG also reached the Youth League final that year, ultimately losing 2–1 to Chelsea, with Édouard contributing three goals and three assists in the competition.
On April 27, 2016, he signed his first professional contract with PSG's senior side. His pre-season introduction to first-team life came during the International Champions Cup, where he appeared as a substitute in the seventy-ninth minute against Leicester City and scored to make it 4–0, helping PSG claim the tournament title. On August 8, 2016, he joined Toulouse on a season-long loan, making his debut on August 14 against Marseille in a 0–0 away draw. His first professional goal came on November 19 against Metz, a consolation in a 2–1 home defeat. The loan was prematurely ended in April 2017 following a police interrogation over an incident unrelated to football, by which point he had made seventeen appearances and scored once.
The move that truly launched his career came on August 31, 2017, when he joined Celtic on a season-long loan from PSG. He scored on his debut against Hamilton Academical, contributing to a 4–1 Celtic win. On December 2, he produced his first career hat-trick in a 5–1 victory over Motherwell at Celtic Park. He also made his UEFA Champions League debut that season, entering as a substitute in a group stage defeat to Anderlecht. On March 11, 2018, he scored the winning goal in a 3–2 derby win over Rangers, inscribing himself into the intense mythology of the Old Firm fixture.
Celtic signed him permanently for a club record fee, and the goals continued to flow. Over a total of 179 appearances for the Scottish club, Édouard scored 88 goals and won seven further trophies, accumulating a domestic treble on his initial loan and an extraordinary haul of silverware thereafter. His time in Scotland solidified his reputation as one of the most dangerous forwards outside the elite European leagues.
In 2021, he signed for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, making over one hundred appearances across four seasons. A brief loan spell with Leicester City offered additional experience before he returned to France with Lens in 2025. His debut season with Lens proved memorable: the club won the Coupe de France, and Édouard scored in the final.
On the international stage, Édouard had been a pivotal figure at youth level, winning both the Golden Player and Golden Boot at the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, exceptional honors that confirmed his standing as France's most exciting young forward of his generation.
