Fátima Alexandra Figueira Pinto was born on January 16, 1996, in Funchal, the capital of the island of Madeira in Portugal. Her footballing journey began in childhood and has taken her from the streets of her island home to the highest stages of European women's football, making her one of the most significant figures in the history of Portuguese women's football.
Pinto started playing football at the age of seven, competing in amateur boys' teams in Funchal — an indication both of her early drive and of the limited organized structures available to girls in that environment at the time. In 2011, at the age of thirteen, she joined the women's team of Grupo Desportivo APEL, a club from her native city, making the transition from informal play to structured competition. Her progression was rapid, and in 2013 she signed with Atlético Ouriense, a club competing in Portugal's top division.
Her breakthrough season arrived quickly. With Atlético Ouriense, Pinto was crowned league champion in the 2013/2014 season, becoming the first female player from Madeira to win the Portuguese women's league title. The achievement carried significance far beyond the medal itself — it was a signal to young girls across the island that the highest levels of the game were attainable regardless of where they were born.
Following that title, Pinto moved to Spain, signing with Santa Teresa CD in the Primera División for two seasons. The experience of competing in one of Europe's stronger women's leagues broadened her tactical and technical development, preparing her for an even more significant domestic challenge. She returned to Portugal to join Sporting CP, where she won another league title in the 2016/2017 season, cementing her reputation as a player who wins wherever she goes.
In March 2018, Pinto received further institutional recognition when she was included among the "11 Best Players" in the Portuguese women's league by the Quinas de Ouro award, organized jointly by the Portuguese Football Federation and its partner associations. The honor acknowledged sustained excellence over a full season.
Her international career began at the youth level, where she debuted for the Portugal Under-19 team on July 2, 2012, in a match against Turkey U19, as part of the 2012 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship — a tournament in which Portugal reached the semi-finals for the first time in history. She went on to represent the under-19 side at the 2013 and 2015 qualifying stages, accumulating twenty-five appearances and four goals before playing her final under-19 match on April 9, 2015.
Her senior international debut came on October 26, 2013, in a defeat against the Netherlands in qualification for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. From that point she became a fixture in the national team setup. On July 6, 2017, coach Francisco Neto selected her for Portugal's squad for the UEFA Women's Euro 2017, making her the first player from Madeira to ever represent Portugal at a UEFA Women's Championship — another piece of island football history claimed by the midfielder.
On May 30, 2023, she was named in Portugal's twenty-three-player squad for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, continuing her international journey at the highest level. On June 24, 2025, she received a call-up to the Portugal squad for the UEFA Women's Euro 2025, confirming her enduring relevance to the national team.
At club level, Pinto signed for RC Strasbourg Alsace in the French Première Ligue, bringing her experience to one of European women's football's more competitive environments.
