Tan Sri Mokhzani bin Mahathir (born 2 January 1961) is a Malaysian businessman and motorsports administrator. A petroleum engineer by training, he began his career with Sarawak Shell Berhad before holding senior positions in Tongkah Holdings Berhad and Pantai Holdings Berhad. He later became involved in the oil and gas industry through Kencana Petroleum, which was listed in 2006 and merged with SapuraCrest Petroleum in 2012 to form SapuraKencana Petroleum.

Mokhzani has also held several prominent corporate and sporting positions. He served as a director of Maxis from 2009 and as its chairman from 2021 to 2024, and was chairman of the Sepang International Circuit from 2003 to 2016. He is also known for his involvement in Malaysian motorsports as an endurance racing driver and as president of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia. He is the second son of former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and Siti Hasmah.

Mokhzani was born to former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Siti Hasmah. He spent his childhood in Alor Setar, Kedah, alongside his four older siblings. Mokhzani later recalled spending weekends at a family orchard (dusun) in Titi Gajah, Kedah, where he and his family picked rambutans, mangoes and durians. He described these childhood experiences as precious and memorable, and considered himself a "country boy".

He graduated from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma, United States, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1987.

He began his professional career in 1987 as a wellsite operations engineer with Sarawak Shell Berhad. In 1989, he left Shell and joined Tongkah Holdings Berhad, where he was subsequently appointed Group Managing Director, a position he held until 2001.

During this period, Mokhzani was also involved in the management of Pantai Holdings Berhad, serving as its chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer until 2001. His business activities extended into several sectors, including component manufacturing, electronics, oil and gas, finance and healthcare. He also held the position of chairman of THB Industries Berhad, an electronics-related business.

Kencana Petroleum and SapuraKencana

Following his departure from Tongkah Holdings and Pantai Holdings in 2001, Mokhzani established Kencana Capital Sdn. Bhd., an investment holding company, with his business associate Yeow Kheng Chew.

Through Kencana Capital, Mokhzani invested in HL Engineering, an oil and gas fabrication company founded by businessman Chong Hin Loon in 1982. Following the investment in 2001, the company was renamed Kencana and developed into Kencana Petroleum Berhad. Mokhzani served as the company's Group Chief Executive Officer and was involved in its expansion into the oil and gas services industry. Kencana Petroleum was listed on Bursa Malaysia in 2006.

In May 2012, Kencana Petroleum merged with SapuraCrest Petroleum Berhad, a company controlled by businessman Shahril Shamsuddin, to form SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad. The merger brought together the two companies' oil and gas services operations and created one of Malaysia's largest integrated oil and gas services groups. At the time, the merged company was reported to be among the world's five largest integrated oil and gas service providers.

Mokhzani became executive vice-chairman and a director of SapuraKencana Petroleum. Following the merger, he and Shahril Shamsuddin jointly worked on refining the company's strategy and integrating the two businesses. In December 2013, after the integration phase had been completed, Mokhzani relinquished his management responsibilities but remained on the board as a non-executive director. He continued to serve as vice-chairman and director until 4 March 2015.

SapuraKencana Petroleum subsequently became known as Sapura Energy Berhad, before adopting the name Vantris Energy Berhad on 1 August 2025.

Beyond the oil and gas sector, Mokhzani's investment interests have included information technology, structural steel engineering and fabrication, automotive businesses and property development.

In March 1997, Mokhzani acquired a 35.53% stake in Hospital Pantai Berhad for RM306.281 million through a transaction involving Tongkah Holdings. He subsequently made a general offer for the remaining shares and stated his intention to retain the company's listing status on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

He has also served on the boards of several Malaysian and overseas companies, including Goldtron Limited of Singapore, Opcom Holdings Berhad, Maxis Berhad and Sime Darby Auto Performance Sdn. Bhd.

Mokhzani served as chairman and chief executive officer of Opcom Holdings Berhad, a company involved in the fibre-optic cable industry. He stepped down from his executive position in 2019.

Mokhzani was appointed to the board of Maxis Berhad on 16 October 2009, when the telecommunications company was listed on Bursa Malaysia. He initially served as an independent non-executive director and later became the company's senior independent director.

On 22 April 2021, he was appointed chairman of the Maxis board, succeeding Raja Arshad. He held the position until 30 June 2024, when he stepped down after serving on the company's board for almost 15 years.
